Andy Soloman has had a varied, fascinating and somewhat unconventional career that has seen him working across all key media platforms and developing superb experience in journalism, publishing and global leadership of large teams. He is currently Global Business Director at Platts, and before that was Global Editorial Director for ICIS, the world-leading service delivering news and pricing information to the energy and chemicals sector. Previously he worked as a professional photographer covering news, entertainment and advertising and as a top international journalist and foreign correspondent.

As a journalist, Andy worked for some of the biggest names including Reuters, Associated Press and numerous newspapers and magazines. His work took him on assignments across Europe, Asia and even to Antarctica where one day he found himself sitting on Captain Scott’s bed.  He spent seven years in communist-ruled Vietnam, where he was the doyen of the foreign correspondent corps. He spent time in Singapore and was also posted to Pakistan where he was involved in leading Reuters coverage of the post 9/11 attacks. Wherever he has reported, Andy has broken key stories, managed output and been at the front of the news agenda in some of the toughest environments.

Andy is passionate about life and relishes challenges. He is a catalyst for change and an innovator and inspirational leader who is skilled driving change, recruiting and retaining high-performance teams that deliver business success.

Privately Andy is a family man and spends as much time as possible with his wife Lien, who he met in Vietnam, and his two sons. He gets tremendous pleasure seeing his sons thrive and develop their love for rugby, cricket and music. He plays tennis a couple of times a week, plays football with Billingshurst Old Boys veterans team and has the occasional game of cricket with the village team. Football has always been important to Andy. Apart from his long-suffering support of Charlton Athletic, he has always played the game. In 1994, he founded and then managed the Hanoi Capitals, the Vietnamese city’s first expat team. He played over 200 matches, was the top scorer, but importantly the club still flourishes to this day.
