Dong Xuan and its surrounding streets were a sprawling mass of shops, stalls, street vendors, shoppers, noise and smells. It was a sensory overload. In the animals section tiny monkeys were held in cramped cages. Guinea pigs and mice scurried about in their cages, while aquarium fish darted in their tanks.
