At dawn in Lenin Park (Reunification Park) seven elderly men exercised next to a MiG-21 fighter. It sat on a plinth and loomed over the shattered remains of a B-52. But amidst the war detritus life was blooming; there was peace and there was hope. Children’s laughter echoed across the park as two men with huge nets swept up grasshoppers.
