The pharmacy in the Institute of Traditional Medicine had a long wooden counter and drawers brimming with ingredients. Sheets of brown paper laid out on the counter were filled with blends of medicinal plants. The pharmacists, with skilled precision, reached into nooks and crannies and carefully weighed liquorice wood, Chinese apples, berries, and other ingredients.
